First, you’ll sign up for the courses here on Zenith’s website. All enrollment fees can be paid online or in person at the Institute. Knowledgeable advisors will guide you through the process of selecting both classroom instruction and practical driving courses that will lead you to your preferred CDL class and endorsements.
Your next step begins with acquiring a Texas commercial learner's permit or CLP which allows for practicing with a commercial vehicle. In addition to completing a CDL Application and paying a $25 processing fee, you’ll complete some driving-related knowledge exams in the following areas: General Knowledge, Texas Commercial Rules, Combination, Air Brakes, and possibly an endorsement that sparks your interest. Endorsements are extra certifications that allow for driving specialized commercial vehicles like passenger vehicles(busses) or tankers or for you to be able to carry a specific type of cargo.
Upon successful course completion, you’re ready to apply for the CDL. After undergoing your training at Zenith, you can feel confident in knowing that our instructors have prepared you well for this next phase. Likewise, here are some important factors to remember. In Texas, you’re required to hold a CLP (Commercial Learner’s Permit) for at least 14 days prior to taking any skills exams. You’ll also need to complete the paperwork and provide the necessary documents along with the application fee. Once you pass the knowledge exam, you can schedule the skills test.
